Webster says about perspective “To the modern mind, it’s hard to believe that perspective had to be “discovered”, but before the 1400s paintings simply lacked accurate perspective. Important people and objects were simply shown larger than less important ones. Distant objects were sometimes shown smaller than near ones. Just as odd, many paintings did not represent the other meaning of perspective either. A scene might not be shown as if it were being seen from one single place. Today, perspective is used much like standpoint. Just as standpoint once used to mean simply the physical place where you stand but today also means the way you ‘see things’ as a result of who you are and what you do.”
Perspective Defined: a mental view or prospect; a visible scene; the appearance to the eye of objects in respect to their relative distance and positions
Synonyms: outlook; viewpoint
Quantum Mechanics:
One of the most surprising features of quantum mechanics is that objects can exist in multiple states simultaneously. Many different possibilities, but the outcome happens when it is observed.
Perspective can be what is observed. Each each person has their own opinion on outcomes based on their point of view and life experience.
What in the world does this have to do with organizing? When helping a client within their home, we as organizers need to respect their domain and perspective. When interacting with other people and their expectations, each person needs to take others perspective in to account. Each person’s experience is different base on the situation and life experience. Clear communication is key to success. Clarification can give better outcomes because we all see things differently.
