It has come to my attention, for many clients, health and beauty products can overload the bathroom and eventually your home.
Do you have too many of every type of product imaginable? Some products that you have not used in years? These products can expire, be no longer good to use, or ineffective. Sometimes you can tell by putting them on your skin. You know it just does not feel right.
Recycle old product: TerraCycle
Do you have product on auto ship from Amazon? If so, it may be time to stop auto ship and have a limit on the number of extra product. If you shop at Costco one trip can last you a very long time with large quantities in each bottle, sold in multiples. Every household is different. Do several members of your family use the same product? Six months’ worth is a good guideline.
If you have an off-storage area in your home, maybe rethink that storage area if it is too inconvenient to check before you order. Before you shop take a pic of your storage area to remind you what you have on hand.
Here is an easy way to keep track of what you have and reduce the daily search for the items you want to use.
Sort thru and remove old product, or product you do not use anymore. ‘Containerize’ each type of item that your family still uses. Use an appropriate size basket that has no lid and is shallow enough to grab what you need, that easily fits in a designated space. Smaller items, smaller basket. One basket for each type of item. i.e.: all body wash, all shampoo, all conditioners. Lids help you forget what is in the container so you buy more than you can use in a reasonable period.
Be able to view items and have them easily accessible. Take them out of the box if currently in use; it’s already open. A perfect example of this is band-aids. Use a small shallow basket to display what is available along with antibiotic cream and alcohol wipes. This makes it quicker to search for what you need.
If there is still too much, consider donating to your local food bank.
Happy sorting!
